#2 Fix Your Horizon!
Today, I want to discuss a composition guideline that is so easy to follow, but many beginners, and even pros, get this wrong. We’re going to talk about what photographers refer to as the horizon line. The horizon is where the sky meets the earth.
As you’ll see in the video, it’s important to keep your shots straight and not slant. The horizon line helps us with this, but you should be aware of some nuances. Why is it important to keep the horizon straight? What if you can’t see the horizon? When is it OK to slant it? For such a seemingly simple thing, why do so many of us get it wrong? What are the different techniques and tricks photographers use to keep their photos straight? Watch the video to get the full scoop.
If you’ve noticed, these first few lessons are on basic composition techniques that you can start incorporating into your photography right away, regardless of what camera you own. We are definitely going to look at more exciting things soon. But if you don’t master the fundamentals now, anything else you do will be meaningless. What you do with the camera is way more important than what the camera does for you. So stay with me…let’s fix your fundamentals, and I assure you, I’ll help you harness the full power and glory of your camera soon. Let me leave you with this quote from Ansel Adams:
The single most important component of a camera is the twelve inches behind it. - Ansel Adams
