Hope you watched the intro video where I talked about what the two main components of photography are, as well as a third one that many photographers miss. If you missed it, I highly recommend that you watch it, as it’s an important one.
Today is your first real lesson. I’m going to show you what’s perhaps the most important composition guideline in photography. It’s a question that confronts you every time you take a shot: where do you place your subject in the frame? (A subject in photography refers to the main thing that you are featuring in your photo—person, animal, mountain, whatever…)
A lot of people don’t think about this before taking a shot. They are happy as long as the subject is somewhere inside the frame. But, by strategically positioning your subject in a particular area, your photo will be that much stronger.
Watch the video to find out what the strategy is. To some of you, this will feel natural!
Hope this made sense? Remember one thing. This is just a guideline. You’re going to find opportunities to break this “rule”. Rules are meant to be broken. In fact, it’s when you start breaking rules, you start being an artist. But, learn the rules, then break them. Otherwise, you’ll be breaking them accidentally and it will show. In photography, it’s all about intention.
If you have a question, feel free to ask in the comments.
